Technical Information

The Dynafact
Manufacturing System (DMS) operates on a Microsoft SQL Server backbone. What this means is that in
order to access your database an installation of Microsoft SQL must be present, either on the network server, or on
your individual workstation. SQL Server SQL
Server 2005 is currently supported.
With the DMS you can use Microsoft SQL Server Express Version. This is a free self contained, instance-specific
installation of the database engine. Although the Express version is not a full version of Microsoft SQL (it does
not include any system administration tools, or connectivity tools), it can be run on its own as the database
server.
Most installations of DMS will
use a fully licensed copy of Microsoft SQL Server 2005. A typical installation will require either Microsoft SQL
Server Workgroup Edition or Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition, depending on the specific needs of your
company. Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition can also be used, but this version is more expensive and
typically supports hundreds of users.
For a comparison of the
different version of Microsoft SQL Server, please see:

Note that Microsoft refers to a user license or “seat” for SQL server as a CAL
which stands for Client Access License.
